Pottery with purpose • Form with function • Art for everyday

Photography by Kris Hundt

Lynn’s wheel-thrown and embossed slab ceramic art explores the graphic and textural possibilities found in the responsive surface of clay. Inspired by her native Texas flora and fauna, she uses hand carved printmaking techniques with Cuerda Seca wax resist glazing on earthenware, porcelain, and mid-range stoneware to create forms with function, art for everyday.

The clay rules the process.

The function defines the form.

Elemental magic takes place as earthen clay is softened by water to workability, dried by air and time, and finished in fire.

My process borrows from varied skills.

I roll the clay into sheets like pastry.

Using printmaking methods I impress textures into the responsive surface of the smooth slabs.

Like a dressmaker I use paper templates to cut the pattern pieces that will fit together to make my forms.

The clay is transformed.
Earth, water, air, and fire.
From my hand to yours…
